Dell Wants to Be "The Greenest Technology Company"

Dell just decided that they’re the best and no one’s gonna mess with them. So Apple can announce it’s getting greener and HP might have more efficient PCs, but Dell is the leader, or will be, ’cause they say so.

Dell really has been doing some marvelous stuff in the last year. They’re allowing customers to offset the lifetime carbon of their PCs (and even themselves) and they have developed an excellent recycling strategy and efficient desktop and laptop designs.

But it’s not enough, Dell is asking all it’s users to take the environment section of Idea Storm by storm. Idea Storm is basically Dell’s suggestion box, and while news there has mostly swirled around Linux since it’s creation, the environment is likely a more important issue to Dell customers.

So go check out IdeaStorm’s Environment section. I’ve just submitted an idea myself, asking Dell to create a Long Life Laptop, that will function well for five to ten years, instead of the average three.

Cool Lamp…Not So Cool Price

About a month ago, I went searching for an energy efficient desk lamp, but came away a little disappointed. Although I ended up settling for a halogen lamp, the LED-powered Z-Bar would have been a beautiful alternative. Winner of the 2006 I.D. Annual Design Review "Best of Category" award, the Z-Bar uses 66 LEDs, producing 112 lumens with only 9.6 watts. The lamp makes up for a lack of bright light by concentrating the light from the LEDs in a 50 degree view angle, rather than 360 degrees like typical incandescents.

At a cost of $129, the lamp is really targeted for those into cool design, but cheap copycats are bound to come out sooner or later right? If you want one, head over to Koncept where they have a mini and floor lamp versions also for sale.

Spy Photos Of The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Wagon

I ran across this story last week but unfortunately due to limited time constraints I wasn’t able to publish it, so if you’ve already seen it, I apologize for my tardiness. For everyone who hasn’t heard (or seen) the news, spy photographers recently captured new shots of a wagon variant of the Mercedes C63 AMG. As you’ll see in the photos, the model retains the same handsome styling found on the rest of the 2008 C-Class lineup, with the added addition of more storage space to allow the obsessive-compulsive among us to stuff even more crap into the back of their vehicle (or, for the Tony Sopranos among us, a few more bodies). Power for the model is rumored to come from a de-tuned version of Mercedes’ 6.2-Liter V8 outputting somehwere between 420 and 450 horsepower, while other highlights of the model likely include enhanced AMG styling, brakes, suspension… basically the same feature set found of the rest of the AMG variants.

Car And Driver, Car Magazine And Inside Line Weigh In On The Mercedes-Benz CL65 AMG

It’s been a relatively slow week for Mercedes reviews, with by our count no more than three publications weighing on a Merc model. As it turns out, this week’s manufacturer-sponsored event gave testers the opportunity to strap themselves in behind the wheel of the roughly $200,000 CL65 AMG, meaning we have three looks at what’s undoubtedly one of the most covetable new Mercedes models currently available.
